Program Note:

Renowned Australian choreographer Graeme Murphy was commissioned by the Bavarian State Ballet Company to create a full-length dance program dedicated to one of Munich's favourite sons, Hugo von Hoffmannsthal. The Silver Rose was premiered by that company in December 2005 at the Munich Nationaltheater. It features music by Carl Vine carefully selected by the composer from his orchestral catalogue to accompany Murphy's re-interpretation of the famous opera scenario, Der Rosenkavalier, by Hoffmannsthal.

In 2010 The Australian Ballet brought a new production of the work to the southern hemisphere, presented in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. The full content of the music are explained on this page.
